Over the last 60 years, a widening mortality gap has emerged between U.S. regions that vote "Red" and those that vote "Blue." In this presentation, Steve Vigdor and Tim Londergan will demonstrate significant and growing differences in life expectancy and the prevalence of chronic diseases between these regions. They will examine how differences in educational attainment and access to quality healthcare, as well as current federal and state health policies, exacerbate these disparities. They will discuss potential policy shifts that could help close the gap and improve health outcomes across the political spectrum.
